Online Writing Buzz Today's Scribbles - Friend's Charity Blog Saves Family's Home - But How About Getting Paid To Blog?
12/26/09
Today's scribbles and gossip in the online writing and 'paid to blog' world involve a story that I received via one of my Friend Feed rooms.
In many ways it was a heartening story considering of the time of year - Christmas! A hard-working American family had a run of misfortune which led to them facing up to the Dad's illness, their car and truck being repossessed and driven away - and the imminent foreclosure of their home.
The parents (both voluntary preachers) turned to a successful online writing and blogging buddy in desperation after the Dad lost his job through an illness contracted through Salmonella food poisoning. He was ill for longer than expected and had not accrued enough illness insurance cover.
This was not Mom's first taste of misfortune - as a child she had lost her family in a car accident.
With the click ticking on the foreclosure, she opened her heart to her friend. The friend already had a successful blog - and happened to mention the family's predicament, including a link for donations.
At first, the cents trickled in, then the dollars, then she woke up one morning to see that enough cash had been raised to save the family car. The charity fund snowballed, with even the needy in similar circumstances offering the odd dollar or two.
Pretty soon, the family had enough to stave off the foreclosure - and even better, some kind soul offered the Dad a job! (Story read online at CNN.com/technology and credited to Oliver Janney.)It just goes to show that in the blogosphere, the 'pen is still mightier than the sword' - or should that be the keyboard!
The motivation of the blogger in this CNN News Story (forwarded to me by fellow-blogger Edward Yong) came purely from a heartfelt desire to help a deserving friend in need but it did get me thinking about the whole business of blogging in general .... particularly the idea of 'paid to blog' opportunities and the upcoming trend for online video blogs - and of earning money for creating them with sites such as 'Expert Village' and others listed at the bottom of this page.
How To Create A Paid To Blog Video
Having created your video blog, your next step will doubtless be to find a 'paid to blog' opportunity!
These are some 'getting paid for blogging' sites I am considering:
www.ehow.com
Expert Village
BlogIt
Blogtivity
451PressAlternatively, you could consider getting a Wordpress blog and monetizing it yourself! This, however, takes a bit more effort in the way of online writing, research, reviews, comparison and hosting! With 'paid to blog' sites, all the keywords, ideas and hosting is often dne for you - all you have to do is - write! Some of them are quite good and pay promptly through Paypal.
